Bhutan has over 72% of the area under forest cover with 10 protected areas spread all over the country for wild life conservation with corridors. The country has 51.32% area under protected network – one of the highest percentage of protected area of any country in the world. Snow leopard is found in high altitude locations. Royal Bengal Tigers are found at the altitude ranging from 3000 to 4000 meters besides Takin, Red Panda,Langur, Himalayan Black Bear, Sambar, Wild Pig, Barking Deer, Blue Sheep, Musk Deer. In the tropical forests of Southern Bhutan Clouded Leopard, one horned Rhino, Elephant, Golden Langur, Water Buffalo and swamp Deer are found. This flourishing situation of wild life is the result deep historical reverence for our natural environment into deliberate policies that place conservation at the centre of our development strategy. The Government has also introduced annual park festivals in different parks with conservation themes for creating awareness and generating support for conservation.
